This past year
has been an outstanding and enjoyable flying year for our club. We
started with a bang at the New years Day Breakfast, with about forty
showed up during the day, for the first flights of the year.
On Memorial Day
weekend, we had a good group come for food and fun.
The Fourth of
July was a barn-burner, with our float in the parade, the Bar-B-Que,
flying, and the PRCA Rodeo. I had the pleasure of taking Joe
Topper to his first rodeo after flying at the field. Loads of fun.
The Pacific Coast
Freestyle Championships and IMAC Challenge was one of our biggest yet.
Garrett Morrison's return and mastery of the freestyle, and Brian
Welton's domination of the scale aerobatics contest made up the
icing on the cake. Thank you all for your participation in making
this one of the year's best model airplane event.
The next weekend
after our championships, the Portland Sky Knights hosted the Evergreen
Scale Masters Qualifier event at our field. Many pilots came from
throughout the west to fly here. It was a pleasure to see some of
the greatest crafted planes of the nation compete here. Some of
the highlights of the event were; the four engine bomber; Jeremy Martins
Tiger Moth; Joe Topper's three engine German transport; Dick Hinne's
Fleet Bi-plane; and lot's more.
Our next event
was the Dawn Patrol, This quiet event for W.W.I and earlier planes
turned out to be one of the jewels in our crown. John Radibaugh
hosted the event with Pepsi as the main sponsor. Cannon fire,
music, and well conducted information from the announcer made this
charming event very special.
The traditional
Labor Day picnic and field event was one of our best. Many family
members and guest shared food and conversation, and watched some of our
best and brightest fly for their entertainment. A great day.
The North South
IMAC Challenge event turned out to be the second largest IMAC contest in
the region, second only to our July event. Many contestants came
from California and Washington to swell the ranks of competitors.
The event offered great prizes and free food, paid for by the entry fee.
Lots of fun.
Our Fall Festival
of Flight and airplane auction turned our really well. We were
able get the big tent from Charlie's High Screen Graphics, the people
who make our shirts. Good day, lots of planes and things for sale.
That's a summary
of the big events for the year, but we had many ordinary weekends and
weekdays where the fun was unlimited. Rockets, float planes,
gliders, helicopters, scale, war birds, sport planes, and just for fun,
made up our year's activities. Thank you all for sharing
your hobby with me and giving your time to make these events the fun
they where.
Our next event
will be the return of the New Years Day Pancake Breakfast. I hope
to see you there.
