The Dawn Patrol is
a classic event sponsored by Northwest RC Aviators, with
assistance from Pepsi, and produced by John
Radibaugh. "J.R.", as he is often called, brings
together many of the classic World War I model aircraft and those who
craft them. The event starts on Saturday morning with a
cannon blast at dawn, and a wave of airmen take to the morning
sky. The next two days are filled with no-hassle contests, fun
flying, and a lot of other good times with the guys.
One of the events is a
timed race of 1913 and prior aircraft. Some very unusual planes
enter. JR has proposed that a race will be flown with
Proctor Antics next year, in a class of their own. A black
powder cannon often signals the sequence of events in John's busy
activity schedule.
Prizes are awarded to
spectators who guess the correct time, the winner or ...whatever JR
can think of. Beautiful medallions are given as the Pilot's
Choice award for most realistic flight, best static model, etc.
Bombing runs, formation flying, touch and go contests, etc. In
all, a lot of fun with replicas of the world's first airplanes.
The 2004 event is
scheduled for August 21st and 22nd, 2004. Click
