This year's Dawn Patrol was
exceptional in terms of weather, pilot turn out, good food, and just
plain fun. The Northwest group, headed by JR, once again proved their
team management skills by providing continuous activity, levity, and
entertainment. A big thank you needs to go to the Pepsi folks for
their sponsorship and assistance in putting this show together.
The field banners, and flagging add tremendously to the look and feel of
the "contest".
Proctor Unlimited Antic racing was a real
hoot. Biplanes, monoplanes, Parasols, tri-motors, and mini's all
took turns attempting to set the record. Bob Hoover won the event
by just fractions of a second to out speed our own Joe Topper and his
Antic tri-motor. The judges' ruling on Joe's first Pylon turn cost him
the trophy. This contest isn't all speed, but timing and making
the shortest course, lead to victory.
They added a new event this year,
military class racing. If you got a WWI military, practice
up. You just might win.
Video is available from Dick
Hanson. You must see this event. It's a lot of fun.
The Side Kick café furnished the meals
in an outstanding catered manner. Good breakfast, lunch, and snacks were
available all day. A couple of our local gals and their families
put together a nice spread.
Thanks to all that made this a great one.
If you missed it, be their next year.
