This past weekend several
of us went out to McMinnville to the Evergreen Aviation Museum (www.sprucegoose.org). What a great
place to spend a day! If you haven't been there yet, the trip is
well worth the time. Those of us in the group included Grant, Zane
(Grant's grandson), Bob Pearson, Bob Walker, Jerry Tofte, and Mike
McGuyer.
We were able to go inside
the Spruce Goose and have a look around. You could hold an indoor
event in that fuse. We drooled over the P40, P51 and SR71
Blackbird. So many aircraft in perfect condition. Most of
them are flyable.
Then Bob Walker persuaded
the guardian of the B17 to give us (and only us) a guided tour INSIDE
the B17. We discovered that he was a pilot of a B17 at the age
of 18. He flew over 30 missions to Germany. He was very
informative and gracious to us. What a thrill -- a personnel
tour of a B17 by a living pilot who flew a B17! WOW!
Later we had to go check
out the RC field behind the Evergreen Museum. Our field is still
number one. What an experience!
