The "Blue Goose" (Now Grey) Flies Again!

December 15th, 2004

Photo Album Index

Ron Campbell brought out another one of his "Big Iron" projects: his newly rebuilt twin engine Navy A3D.  This is a resurrection of his "Blue Goose" A3D that was lost to a crash earlier this year.  It's powered by a pair of Saito 180 engines and has a 12-foot wingspan!

Ron ran a number of taxi tests, then flew it for the first time.  The maiden flight was very successful, although he discovered that it was nose heavy and used up nearly all of its available up-elevator in order to rotate on takeoff and flare for landing.  He'll be giving it some more fine-tuning, then bring it out again for more shakedown flights.   Very impressive!
